Quiet without is helpful in finding silence within. However, external silence is not required for meditation. Some can meditate in the midst of noise – on planes, subways, even in the midst of football stadiums filled with screaming fans.
In my meditations, I sometimes imagine myself falling into silence, sinking down, letting go of the energy that glued me to noise. Use these words if they help you find your place of peace.
Falling Silent
~
Let yourself fall
towards silence.
The work will wait.
The people will live.
Life’s traffic will swim
its strokes without you.
This is your time to rest
on the kind chest of silence.
Sit awhile in the quilted corner
of the one life that needs you.
The silence loves your
company.
Love her.
Breathe the song of your
sweet breath. Hear the air sway,
the hammock swing,
the sea’s torso swell like yours
rises with the moon’s tides.
Ride this current of quiet.
This is your time to rest.
